Abstract

One of the primary reasons for the growth of relations between the Ottoman Empire and England from the 17th century onward was for economics purpose. Izmir was the starting point of trade relations between the two countries. This study primarily examines British consular reports on economic activity between Izmir and England. The study also utilizes the commercial reports of Consul Reade (June 20, 1877 October 1879) who served British Consul General in Izmir between 1877 and 1881, and Consul Dennis (October 1879-May 1888).
